Registered Nurse(Newport)

Overview

As a Night Nurse (RGN), you will take a leading role during the night shift, ensuring the safe and smooth running of the home while management is off-site. You will be responsible for delivering exceptional clinical care, overseeing a dedicated team of night care assistants, and ensuring that the physical, psychological, and social needs of our residents are met to the highest standards.

Responsible For

    • Deliver high-quality, person-centered nursing care tailored to the individual needs and wishes of residents.
    • Accurately assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care plans, ensuring all documentation is kept up-to-date.
    • Take responsibility for the safe ordering, storage, and administration of medications in accordance with NMC guidelines and home policies.
    • Monitor resident well-being overnight, recognizing early signs of clinical deterioration and responding swiftly to medical emergencies.

Specific Skills

  • Medication Management: Proficiency in the safe administration, storage, and auditing of medications, including controlled drugs.
  • Clinical Interventions: Competence in standard nursing procedures such as wound care and tissue viability management, catheterisation, PEG care, and phlebotomy (venepuncture).
  • Emergency Response: Strong basic life support (BLS) and first aid skills, with the ability to swiftly assess and manage deteriorating residents or medical emergencies during the night.
  • Care Planning & Documentation: Exceptional record-keeping skills, with the ability to accurately update digital or paper care plans and risk assessments.
  • End-of-Life Care: Knowledge and experience in palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring residents are kept comfortable and pain-free.

Educational Requirements

  • Registration: Must hold an active pin and current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Experience: Previous experience working as a nurse in a care home or elderly care setting is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong clinical skills, sound decision-making abilities, and a solid understanding of current regulatory frameworks (including DoLS and MCA).
  • Attributes: A compassionate, patient, and dedicated professional who can confidently lead a team and work autonomously.
