Deputy Manager(Caldicot)

Overview

As the Nurse Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the General Manager to provide strong clinical and operational leadership across the home. You will champion high standards of nursing care, ensuring that all clinical practices comply with CIW regulations. A key component of this role is flexibility; while primarily working day shifts, you will be required to occasionally cover night shifts to provide on-the-floor support, assess night staff competency, and ensure consistent quality of care across the full 24-hour cycle.

Responsible For

• Clinical Leadership & Care Delivery:
• • Oversee the clinical care provided to residents, ensuring individual care plans are regularly reviewed, evaluated, and updated.
  • Act as a clinical role model, working on the floor alongside nursing and care staff to demonstrate best practices in wound care, medication management, and complex care needs.
  • Cover occasional night shifts to audit nighttime care standards, mentor night staff, and ensure seamless continuity of care between day and night teams.
  • Manage the safe storage, administration, and auditing of medications in line with NMC guidelines and home policies.
• Management & Operational Support:
• • Deputize for the General Manager in their absence, taking full responsibility for the daily running of the care home.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, induction, training, and performance management, including conducting regular appraisals and supervisions.
  • Help manage staffing rotas efficiently to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained at all times, across all shifts.
  • Foster a positive, open, and communicative working culture among all staff members.
• Compliance & Quality Assurance:
• • Ensure all care and operational practices adhere strictly to CIW regulations, Health and Safety legislation, and the home's internal policies.
  • Conduct regular internal clinical audits (e.g., infection control, care plans, medication) and implement action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Actively engage with residents, their families, and visiting healthcare professionals (GPs, social workers) to address concerns, gather feedback, and maintain excellent working relationships.

Educational Requirements

• Registration: Must hold an active NMC pin as a Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN).
• Experience: Proven experience in a senior nursing or clinical leadership role (e.g., Senior Nurse, Clinical Lead, or Deputy Manager), ideally within a nursing home or elderly care setting.
• Knowledge: Thorough understanding of Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) standards, safeguarding protocols, the Mental Capacity Act (MCA), and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
• Skills: Strong clinical competencies, excellent organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to confidently lead and motivate a diverse care team.
• Flexibility: Willingness and ability to work flexibly, including covering night shifts as required by the needs of the home.
